It was at the busiest point of our 2015 sea\u00adson that we took a 7\u2011hour road trip up to Tim\u00admins, Ontario to be a part of an edi\u00adto\u00adr\u00adi\u00adal shoot for Wed\u00adLuxe Mag\u00ada\u00adzine<\/a>. Lau\u00adra from Lau\u00adra & Co.<\/a> had reached out to us and filled us in on the project \u2014 there was talk of fox\u00ades, fal\u00adcons, and the great north\u00adern wilderness.<\/p>\n

We were con\u00advinced before we had even fin\u00adished read\u00ading the e\u2011mail and were ready to move heav\u00aden and earth to be a part of this project.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

So hav\u00ading just shot Andrea and Jef\u00adf\u2019s<\/a> wed\u00adding on the Sat\u00adur\u00adday, we charged our bat\u00adter\u00adies, backed up our cards, and packed to dri\u00adve up on Mon\u00adday, shoot for the next two days, and come back for Thurs\u00adday to get every\u00adthing ready for Crys\u00adtal and Jer\u2019s<\/a> on Friday.<\/p>\n

We left around noon on Mon\u00adday, tak\u00ading a small detour to Neo Cof\u00adfee Bar<\/a> for some good cof\u00adfee and snacks. We had heard a lot about this place but hon\u00adest\u00adly, it was love at first sip and is now one of our favourite cof\u00adfee spots in Toronto.<\/p>\n\"Neo\n\"Neo\n

3 hours out\u00adside of Toron\u00adto, land\u00adscapes start to look real\u00adly beau\u00adti\u00adful and you start to ques\u00adtion whether you\u2019re even in Ontario any\u00admore. We stopped for a small hike off the high\u00adway with some jaw-dropping rock for\u00adma\u00adtions. Things got a lot more awe-inspiring as the ride pro\u00adgressed, but as roads got wet\u00adter and the day with\u00adered into dark\u00adness, we start\u00aded to real\u00adly feel the need to get to our des\u00adti\u00adna\u00adtion and refrained from stop\u00adping for any pho\u00adtos. The pitch-black coun\u00adtry roads wind\u00ading through moun\u00adtains and cliff sides mixed with the con\u00adstant warn\u00adings of moose cross\u00adings made for a par\u00adtic\u00adu\u00adlar\u00adly hor\u00adri\u00adfy\u00ading com\u00adbi\u00adna\u00adtion, but we made it there in one piece, albeit a cou\u00adple hours late (40km under the speed lim\u00adit is our go to when things get scary).<\/p>\n\"Canada\n

The theme of the shoot was \u201cInto the Wild\u201d and our expe\u00adri\u00adence in this lit\u00adtle north\u00adern get\u00adaway could\u00adn\u2019t have been a clos\u00ader reflec\u00adtion of that. In the few days that we spent up there, we encoun\u00adtered land\u00adscapes rem\u00adi\u00adnis\u00adcent of the Group of Sev\u00aden\u2019s, crossed paths with a bear or two, held a cou\u00adple of fox\u00ades, tried our palates with some beaver, and cap\u00adtured some tru\u00adly amaz\u00ading peo\u00adple doing what they do best.<\/p>\n

On the tech\u00adni\u00adcal side of things, we want\u00aded the view\u00ader to be able to eas\u00adi\u00adly iden\u00adti\u00adfy the set\u00adup por\u00adtions from the fin\u00adished sets with\u00adin the film. Slow-motion is some\u00adthing our Canon C100 Mark IIs are capa\u00adble of by shoot\u00ading in 60p and con\u00adform\u00ading down to 24p in post \u2014 it\u2019s some\u00adthing we\u2019ve always been inter\u00adest\u00aded in doing but have nev\u00ader had a project that called for it. So we decid\u00aded that we would shoot these fin\u00adished scenes in slow-motion on the Movi M5 \u2014 the epic results com\u00admu\u00adni\u00adcate the grandeur of these sets that every\u00adone is work\u00ading so hard to create.<\/p>\n

The idea of the Into the Wild shoot was to com\u00adbine mod\u00adern ele\u00adments with this theme of rus\u00adtic wilder\u00adness. We want\u00aded the final col\u00ador to be a reflec\u00adtion of these oppos\u00ading ideas \u2014 a com\u00adbi\u00adna\u00adtion of vin\u00adtage film and the clean, sleek look of con\u00adtem\u00adpo\u00adrary cin\u00ade\u00adma. The final look we decid\u00aded on was vibrant, rem\u00adi\u00adnis\u00adcent of Super8 or Super16 film, but clean and sharp. We also added a bit of grain to each shot to refine that film aesthetic.<\/p>\n\"Freefly\n\"Into\n
